Day 5 - a photo of your favorite forward.

This is super hard for me because my love is so expansive and even after 2 years I’m still feeling my way around the league. that being said, this guy is my current favorite hockey player. He’s the friendliest dude I’ve talked to, carries himself so well, and will do great things. mark it.

Day 4: Do you follow any of the following leagues: ECHL, WHL, CHL, IHL? Or other leagues?

Yep. I follow the QMJHL and the NCAA. The Q because they have a team in Maine that I can get to, and the NCAA because, well - I’m a prospects junkie plus I went to Boston University, which boasts one of the most storied college hockey teams in history. You just can’t beat the epic rivalry with BC - no one else in the NCAA has anything like it.

BU won the college hockey championship in 2008 and since then, the majority of players who have graduated or left the team have gone on to play professionally. Matt Gilroy, Brandon Yip, Colin Wilson - they’re all in the NHL. It’s so cool.

The Lewiston MAINEiacs are the former team of guys like David Perron. They’re the only United States-based QMJHL team. They’re FAILY LIKE A FAILY THING. And I am growing to love them so so much. I originally leaped headfirst into the Q to keep an eye on the Bruins’ Jordan Caron, Max Sauve and some other prospects, but now Lewy has stolen my heart. :D

Day 3: Who is your favorite AHL team?

Unless you’re new, you also know this.

I am a HUGE HUGE HUGE P-Bruins fan. Like, HUGEHUGE. So huge that on the site I blog for, I’m the AHL editor. I can rattle off the roster in a heartbeat, I can name lines, you say the word, I can probably tell you about it. The only other person I know who can do that is @themagnetsmile, because she’s pretty much taught me everything I know.

I met and started loving the PB’s about four months after I re-launched into my big B’s love. Went to my first game in February 09 against the Manitoba Moose. the PBs lost. Kevin Regan was in nets. My next game was 3/15/09. Tuukka was in nets. My third game was EPIC RHODE ISLAND HOCKEY TOUR, and I got to actually meet him. And Nedo. And some other dudes. McQuaid was one of them, I think.

Oh, faily baby team, I can’t wait to see what this injection of new peeps this year turns you into. Something awesome, I hope. <3

Day 2: Who is your favorite NHL team?

LOL I missed a day.

In case you’ve been really out of the loop and you somehow ACTUALLY DO NOT KNOW THIS, my NHL team is - surprise - the Boston Bruins!

I’ve always vaguely followed along with my dad’s epic Bruins fandom, but we were always a football family. When I was 14, I met Sergei Samsonov - he came to a rink near my house and skated with everyone, signed autographs, and was basically a totally cool guy. I think getting to hang out with him set my bar pretty low for being impressed by NHL players; he literally, aside from the signing of every Samsonov hockey card my dad had, seemed just like one of the guys.

The summer after I graduated from college, my friend Mary and I took a trip to Montreál. We stayed at a hostel in the old part of town and after a night of heavy drinking, got up earlier than all our friends and took a walk to the Bell Centre. She’s been in love with the city and the sport of hockey for forever but she’s from Portland, they don’t have an NHL team. She claimed the Habs as her own, and, knowing that was simply unacceptable, I decided to start supporting the Bruins full force. The following month I took a job working in a newsroom, making it impossible to miss a game (we always had TVs on with whatever boston teams were playing) and in January 2009, on Jan 1, I went to my first ever Bruins game. All the stuff I described in my last post hooked me immediately.

I love the Garden, I love the new Bobby Orr statue. I love the individuals on my team and I pine for them when they leave except Phil Kessel. I love travelling to see them play; Chicago and Phoenix and NYC and Montreal, hopefully a few more places this season. And I love the accessibility, going to practices in Wilmo and everything. I love whenever one of them appears in a magazine in Boston or does something hilarious; I love Shawn’s vlogs or his epic bromances with Bitzy and Tuukka, Savvy’s stupid fashion sense, Stu’s “monkey bum,” Johnny Boychuk being made into a verb, Zee joking about eating babies. I even love yelling at Wheels for being offsides for 99% of his TOI, making fun of Andy Ference’s glass groin, cheering for Luch to kick the shit out of his opponents. I love being a fan of TRENT WHITFIELD, even when other B’s fans bash him for not producing, EVEN THOUGH HE’S A FOURTH LINE CALLUP WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE HE’S NOT GOING TO START MAGICALLY PRODUCING LIKE A FIRST LINE CENTER.

*cough* ahem. Sorry. Touchy point. I’ll get to that in my next post.

What else. Oh, if you’re a Habs fan, I’ll probably have lots of fun taunting you. I love you guys. XD There’s nothing like wearing a tim thomas jersey in MTL and getting yelled at: “HEY! Why do all the people in Boston drink out of saucers? Because all the Cups are in Montreal!” I lol’d. Montreal fans are awesome sports.

If you’re a Pens fan, tread very lightly. I’m not over the Matt Cooke thing and it’s likely I won’t be for a while. If you think he’s “hot” or “TTLY AWSUM,” unfollow me right the fuck now, I don’t want anything to do with you. In fact, I think you’re a dumbfuck asshole who shouldn’t be allowed near a hockey arena. And, you’re probably a puck bunny. Or something.

GO BRUINS!

Day 1: Why do you love hockey?

I love it because it induces that feeling in you, you know the one, where your chest clenches so tight that tears come out of your eyes? I walked into the Androscoggin Colisée yesterday and just…i have no connection to either team, but the smell of hockey, that rush of air over the glass and the sharp sounds of skates on ice, the taste of arena hot chocolate and the sight of people wearing their team’s colors. I love it because it combines elements of every other sport I’ve loved - the hard hitting of football, the speed and brutal skill of rugby, and the sense of team that’s like nothing else. I love it because the players are real people who had to work really frigging hard to get where they are. I love it because of the accessibility - could I ever dream of attending a Patriots or Red Sox or Celtics regular season practice with the regularity that I do the Bruins? Hellz no.

This says nothing of the heart-stopping, adrenaline-inducing PANIC that is actual games. If walking into an arena for preseason and feeling that utter calm is a result of preseason, walking into the arena and feeling the same feeling during playoffs - even the regular season - is the exact opposite. Your heart starts racing and you’re on edge the whole time. You scream for your goals and sit in your seat and shake when the other team scores. There’s nothing else in the world like it, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Bruins Primer. Reblog for new tumblr.

flyingfinnishking:

So I’m getting really tired of having to dig through youtube and re-link people to these videos. Tumblr, you so convenient.

Funny/Awesome Bruins Youtube Videos: A Comprehensive List

To start, these are the five videos where they ask a bunch of stupid questions. Totally clutch, totally must-watch. The last 3 are a little more lengthy.

Bruins Pop Culture 1 (in which the guys tell us their favorite scenes from Slapshot)

Bruins Pop Culture 2 (in which the guys tell us about their first cars, and Savvy wants to be a curler)

Get to Know your Bruins 1 (………i don’t even know. Aaron Ward steals this.)

Get to Know your Bruins 2 (“What’s your signature move?” “You mean on the ice?”)

Get to Know your Bruins 3 (WATCH THIS ONE PAST THE CREDITS.)

And just some random funny/awesome stuff:

-The Bruins play Rock Band. Looch plays on Hard and messes up a lot; Wheels plays drums, Lashie plays bass, Stu sings. Epic.

-“they’ll never find us in here!” strangely, this was made way before the winter classic was announced….

- Vladimir Sobotka is adorable, from the Czech Republic, and also has no fear. Tyler Myers who? He’s also bffs with Krejci and Wheels, sometimes.

If you have not seen Tuukka Rask go nuts yet, I am not sure how we are friends.

Really he’s a very nice kid otherwise.

Please, NESN, mic Shawn Thornton up always.

Stu feels no pain. (turn the volume way up and listen to the background)

Krejci goes to Vancouver and makes fun of the Canadians a little.

Boston Hockey fans are awesome sometimes.

Actual hockey stuff:

BERGERON WITH A MURDEROUS HIT ON KOIVU….LUCIC TAUNTS THE MONTREAL BENCH! oh and a fight. aksdhfgljkfdsg  the Lucic vs. Komisarek thing last year made me such a gleeface.

BERGERON FIGHTS GORGES. YOU CANT MAKE THIS STUFF UP. “CONCUSS THAT!”

Bergy does a lacrosse trick of sorts. Through the legs = awesome?

Game 6. I don’t have words for this. Just watch. This entire video makes my heart pound. *_*

The only non-Habs/Bruins video in this section: BRAAAVE STEVE. Bruins-Stars line brawl, or How I Learned to Really Freaking Love This Team. (this includes OHWHATAHIT!)

Oh wait just kidding. YOU GOTTA THIRD GOALIE YOU WANNA TRY?

And a piece of history:

Bobby flies.
